Breast Augmentation and Self-Esteem - ask me

For many women, breast augmentation is a relatively quick and easy way to feel better about the way they look and improve their self-esteem. There are a number of controversial opinions on this topic and many people will say that it is not an improvement in self-esteem if you base it solely on the way you look. True and dramatic improvements in self-esteem only occur when changes happen on the outside and you view yourself differently. Instead of worrying about the way others see you, true self-esteem is linked to the way you see yourself.

This is an important consideration to keep in mind if and when you are deciding whether or not to have breast augmentation surgery. Most plastic surgeons go through a rather extensive counseling period during the pre-operative period and determine the reasons someone would like to have this type of elective cosmetic surgery. While many plastic surgeons will not decline this procedure if they don?t feel you have good enough reasons, they will strongly encourage you to do the procedure for yourself instead of for someone else. This is especially true of women that want to have the procedure done in order to make their boyfriends or husbands happy.

There are a number of things to think about when deciding which type of elective cosmetic surgery is right for you. Breast augmentation is an exciting and enjoyable enhancement that helps women to look and feel better. However, genuine changes in self esteem occur from the inside and are not improved by an extra large cup size. As such, women that undergo breast augmentation may or may not be satisfied with the overall results when the procedure is finished.

One of the most common causes of post-operative dissatisfaction with breast augmentation surgery is linked to not having appropriate expectations going in to the procedure. It is very important to discuss all options and expectations with your plastic surgeon before entering the operating room. This will help ensure all of your questions and comments are addressed and will make sure that you have adequate expectations about what the physician can accomplish with this procedure. Find a plastic surgeon that you feel comfortable talking to in order to get all of your questions and concerns answered.

Keep these factors in mind when determining if breast augmentation is right for you. Find reasons that will help ensure the procedure will be a success and that you will be happy with the results. Find reasons to improve your self-esteem in ways that are not linked to your chest size.

Desire2Learn raises $80 million in venture funding

TORONTO (Reuters) - Desire2Learn Inc, a Canadian technology company that develops online learning systems, said on Tuesday that it secured $80 million in venture funding to help strengthen its infrastructure and boost its prospects for growth.

The privately held company is based in Ontario's Kitchener-Waterloo area, near BlackBerry maker Research In Motion .

Desire2Learn said the backing comes from U.S. venture capital firm New Enterprise Associates and OMERS Ventures - the venture capital arm of Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System, one of Canada's largest pension fund managers.

Desire2Learn Chief Executive John Baker said in an interview that the plan would allow the company to focus on research and development.

The company builds cloud-based learning systems that provide online learning platforms for a base of more than 700 clients, which include higher education institutes and universities, along with government and corporate sector customers.

The terms of the financing were not disclosed, but the deal gives the venture investors a minority interest, Baker said.

The $80 million capital raise is Desire2Learn's first round of financing, and it also marks the largest-ever venture capital investment in a Canadian software company, according to Thomson Reuters data.

"The company has been called on by many private equity and venture groups over the last seven years. We only really decided to go down this path three months ago," Baker said. "We ran a very, very tight process with a very small number of top tier firms."

RAPID GROWTH

Desire2Learn, which has a workforce of about 550, has added roughly 200 people in the past year alone.

Baker said the company had already approved plans to post another 170 jobs even before the financing deal was completed.

The company's rapid expansion comes at a crucial juncture for the area, which has been hurt by RIM's waning fortunes. The one-time Canadian tech behemoth has shed thousands of jobs in recent months as its aging line-up of BlackBerry devices has lost ground to more-advanced devices like Apple Inc's iPhone and a slew of others based on Google's Android software.

Howard Gwin, managing director of OMERS Ventures, sees Desire2Learn as the new shining light in the tech hub that has grown in and around the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo.

"The metrics on the company are unbelievable. It's rate of growth with being self-funded is phenomenal -- it is in the top 1 percentile range," said Gwin, adding that Desire2Learn has barely scraped the surface in terms of both domestic and global growth.

"We love that John has a long-term mindset around building a great global brand," said Gwin in an interview. "Our view is this company will become the category leader."

The funding from NEA and OMERS Ventures will allow the company to accelerate its growth plans as an independent entity, said Baker, adding that Desire2Learn has no plans at this time to go public or sell out.

Shawna's Food and Recipe Blog: Korean BBQ Pork Belly at the - Yes

The Honey Pig!

? ? ?I have heard good comments about the Honey Pig Korean BBQ Restaurant several times. ?Finally I gave the Honey Pig BBQ a try, on a day off from my job in Death Valley, California. ?My days off were always spent back home in Las Vegas each week. ?The tourist trap style food in Death Valley was kind of boring, so when I came home to Las Vegas, I went hog wild on tasty food! ?The Honey Pig BBQ is a great place to go hog wild!
? ? ?Many Korean restaurants in Las Vegas offer great deals on BBQ for large parties at a table. ?The value of the money spent is much better for a meal of Korean BBQ for a party of six, than it is for one. ?Korean BBQ is a social event, so the more the merrier! ?The price for Korean BBQ for one person at the Honey Pig BBQ was very reasonable, by comparison.
? ? ?While running errands on my day off from work, I became hungry. ?When hungry in the afternoon, I usually drive down Spring Mountain Road to look for an interesting place to eat in Korea Town or Chinatown. ?I had my camera with me and I thought about taking a few pictures of a Vietnamese restaurant that I had previously written a review about. ?The original photographs of the outside of the building turned out blurry, so taking new photos was a good idea. ?I pulled into the parking lot of the Vietnamese business and clicked the camera button a few times. ?As I turned to walk back to my car, I saw the Honey Pig BBQ sign. ?My tummy began to growl! ?It had been quite some time, since I have dined in a Korean restaurant, so the Honey Pig BBQ became my destination for lunch.
? ? ?Everybody knows that I like jjigae and sundubu jjigae, because I like spicy food. ?The past few times that I dined at Korean restaurants, I tried items on the menu that I have never had before. ?Trying something new is always a good learning experience for a chef. ?I write about my dining experiences and some research is always involved, so the content of the article that I write is correct. ?I have learned a lot about cooking over and above culinary art school, by doing research on my own.
? ? ?After I sat at my table at the Honey Pig BBQ, a thought occurred to me. ?I had not posted an article that featured Korean BBQ that was cooked at the table. ?The menu at the Honey Pig BBQ was extensive. ?There were many great entrees that were cooked by the chef in the main kitchen. ?The menu items from the kitchen looked interesting, but my choice for lunch that day was BBQ cooked at the table!
? ? ?I chose the Korean BBQ Pork Belly for lunch! ?The waitress smiled and she went off to prepare the ingredients for my BBQ pork belly lunch. ?When a customer orders BBQ that is cooked at the table, the waitress becomes the chef!
? ? ?The waitress first fires up the BBQ grill. ?I was seated at a table that had a solid dome shaped grill. ?Dome shaped grills are traditional for cooking bulgogi and they are usually perforated. ?The Honey Pig BBQ also had standard open flame grills that had grates to set the BBQ items on. ?Open flame grills are more common in Las Vegas than the dome grills. ?It is not often that the solid dome grills are seen in Las Vegas Korean restaurant dining rooms, so this style of cooking Korean BBQ was going to be an interesting experience!
? ? ?After the grill becomes hot, the waitress brings out the items that take the longest time to cook. ?Then the action starts! ?Items are placed on the domed grill, so the juices from the meal roll downhill to help flavor the other ingredients. ?The domed Korean cooking method was ingenious! ?The meat did not sit in a pan and fry in its own fats like a wok or saute pan. ?The meat stayed high and dry, where it seared to perfection! ?The juices and fats of the meat also did not remain in the vegetables that were placed at a lower levels of the domed grill. ?The fats continued rolling downhill past the vegetables into a grease catching trough that was part of the domed grill. ?I really liked this method of cooking!
? ? ?I actually became involved in the cooking of my lunch, when the waitress walked away for a few moments to tend to other duties. ?In fact all of the customers that were having Korean BBQ for lunch were using their chopsticks to flip pieces of meat or toss vegetables on the domed grill, just like I was. ?This is part of the fun of Korean BBQ. ?The customer becomes involved in the cooking!
? ? ?The waitress saw me tending the BBQ as she walked by and she smiled! ?I responded by saying "You know, I'm a chef and I can cook. ?I am really having a good time helping to cook my own lunch!" ?The waitress almost laughed. ?She wasn't laughing at my cooking skills, because I was doing a pretty good job of tending the Korean BBQ, considering that I was a first timer. ?I think that she got a kick out of how I was actually having a good time taking part in cooking lunch on a domed grill. ?I absolutely adored the Korean domed grill!
? ? ?As you can see in the photographs, the Korean Pork Belly BBQ progressed from raw ingredients to a finished product. ?If you wish to see a bigger photo image, then click on any picture and a slide show mode will appear.
? ? ?The small plates of banchan (Korean side dishes) were very nicely prepared. ?The banchan items were different than any banchan than I have had before. ?The Honey Pig BBQ had its own unique style of Korean cuisine and it was definitely authentic. ?Actually, authentic and gourmet is a better description!
? ? ?Korean BBQ refers to the method of cooking. ?There are sauces and marinades involved, but it is not like American BBQ cooking, where sauces are slathered on meat over a char grill. ?As you can see in the pictures, most of the fat was cooked out of the pork belly, by the time the meat was fully cooked. ?The domed grill had a lot to do with the lean appearance of the cooked pork belly. ?Pork belly meat is a delicacy, because the fat surrounding the meat causes the meat to become very tender and flavorful. ?Korean BBQ is actually a very healthy style of cooking!
? ? ?I like Korean Hite Beer and it comes in a big bottle. ?On a hot summer day, a cold beer hits the spot and beer goes well with Korean BBQ. ?For those who drink only tea or non alcoholic beverages, the Honey Pig has a nice selection of refreshing regular teas and drinks. ?
? ? ?On the way out of the Honey Pig BBQ, I asked about the wall full of baseball jerseys that were on display. ?The waitress liked how I took interest in the jerseys. ?She said that the autographed baseball jerseys were from the Korean baseball team that played in the Seoul Olympics! ?Baseball is big in Korea. ?Korean baseball, Korean BBQ Pork Belly and a good beer? ?That sounds good to any true baseball fan! ?Especially in Las Vegas, because some of the oddsmakers even set lines on the olympic games! ? ?
? ? ?The Honey Pig Korean BBQ is located at 4725 Spring Mountain in the Spring Oaks Plaza near the intersection of Decatur. ?The Honey Pig BBQ is tucked into the corner of the plaza, but the signs are easy to see. ?Just look for the smiling piggy signs on the restaurant building!
? ? ?I highly recommend the the Honey Pig Korean BBQ for locals and visitors of Las Vegas! ?The food is superb! ?The Korean BBQ dome at the table is something that must be experienced! ?If you only knew how much I want to get a Korean domed BBQ grill for my home! ?Yum! ?... ?Shawna? ?

HBT: Valentine will manage rest of season

UPDATE: ?OK, Valentine is safe for the season:

?

October 1, though? Well. Stay tuned.

8: 27 AM: Bobby Valentine: ?The Emperor?s coming here?
Larry Lucchino:?That is correct, Commander. And, he is most displeased with your apparent lack of progress.
Bobby Valentine: We shall double our efforts.
Larry Lucchino: I hope so, Commander, for your sake. The Emperor is not as forgiving as I am.

With the team in tatters on the West Coast ? six straight losses, outscored in the six games by an astounding 54-15 ? the Boston Herald?s Michael Silverman reported Monday morning that?owner John Henry and general manager Ben Cherington have flown to Seattle, where the Sox will begin a three-game series against the Mariners today.

There have been no votes of confidence or anything like that. And there have been no real justifications for one even if there had been. It seems inevitable that Bobby Valentine is a one-and-done manager for the Red Sox, even if what has happened this year cannot be fairly laid at his feet. ?He was dropped in to an untenable position to being with in a job unsuited to his strengths.

Still, failure is failure and it?s hard to envision a situation in which Valentine is the manager for this team in 2013.
