Sports insurance is essential for a fitness instructor

It seems that these days everyone is taking their cue on achieving a healthier way of life, be it by using electrical appliances on ecological settings, sourcing renewable energy, or eating properly and exercising regularly.

Keeping fit is certainly beginning to catch on, and it's not surprising either, as one quick glance at the TV schedules demonstrates that we are increasingly becoming an obese nation, and healthy role models are hard to find.

People's aspiration for more healthy lifestyles has, in turn, created more job opportunities for coaches, personal trainers, and fitness instructors, as many people simply lack the self-discipline and motivation to keep fit on their own.

There are a number of reasons why many people would probably be attracted to this sort of job. Anyone who is passionate about a sport will often find that being a coach is second only to being a professional player in the game. Similarly, people who like to keep fit anyway often find that a job as an instructor is not a chore. Instructors, personal trainers, and coaches all enjoy the benefit of keeping fit while they work, and for many people who work from nine to five, keeping fit takes up a large proportion of their spare time. In addition to this, flexible hours are a perk that usually comes with the position.

Despite the many attractions offered by this type of role it is important to remember that it comes with certain responsibilities too. Fitness instructors must be constantly vigilant for a number of eventualities. Probably the most common worry is that of injury. If an instructor or coach was to suffer an injury then they could find that they can't work for a period. Depending on how long this is it could cause them a significant loss of earnings. Similarly if a third party sustains an injury then the instructor could find himself or herself financially liable. Or someone might even become ill after taking food or drink supplied by the coach.

Instructors aren't just responsible for people but for equipment too, whether it is their own or it belongs to a facility that they are renting. Because they are responsible for so much it is essential that instructors, coaches, and personal trainers have specialist insurance that covers them against all of the eventualities they might encounter, from personal injury to equipment being stolen. In fact many sports centres will not rent their facilities to a coach without proof of personal liability insurance.

iSlayTheDragon | Board Games, Board Game Reviews, and a ...

My wife and I are foster parents.? And my gaming group consists of my kids.? Now as with all foster homes, we have had children in and out of our house over the years ? all of various ages and for different periods of time.? This is, as you might expect, a bitter-sweet lifestyle.? But those general musings are better suited to other venues.? To the point of this post, I?ve been pleasantly surprised with the rewarding experience of gaming with two, young girls who were placed in our home for about 18 months.? They returned to their parents last month (ages 11 and 10).? Not only do I miss their humor, imaginations, and unique perspectives on gaming, but their absence has also changed the current gaming sessions for me and my two sons.

The first, immediate difference is that now we?re down to 3 players.? Really, this change cannot be understated.? One, we have a few games that are simply, out-right merrier with more.? Bang! The Bullet is a favorite of ours, and you can play with three, but it?s just not the same.? More generally, the dynamics of a 3-player game versus 5-player are noticeably different ? though not always easily quantifiable.? Without a doubt, we still have fun playing games, but we enjoyed it even more with the extra interaction.? Of course, the trade-off is that our games are relatively quicker.

The change in game choice is also evident.? The boys tend to prefer war games, and we?ve already hit up two of our longer slug-fests in the past month.? Certainly we will play a variety of styles and genres, but I?ve no doubt that the scale will tip toward the conquest end of titles for the near future.

Perhaps more interestingly, the ?replacements? to our gaming group have changed the situation considerably.? We had three siblings placed in our home about two weeks ago.? However, these kids are younger ? ages 6, 5, and 3.? I suspect that all newcomers tend to change the dynamics of a regular gaming group to one extent or another.? In my case, it?ll mean simpler games with the new kids and the deeper, hobby titles with my two boys.? Both experiences are a blast and I can roll either way.

So what about you?? While the particulars may vary, I?m sure my situation is little different than others who attend regular gaming groups.? Has the departure of a long-time member, or more, impacted the nature of your group?? Perhaps?that person was a close friend or?family member?? Maybe it even altered your group?s gaming choices or habits?? If so, in what way, either positive or negative?? And how were you able to adjust to the change in dynamics?

Tackle faulk injured in practice, out v Washington

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) ? LSU starting left tackle Chris Faulk was injured in practice Wednesday and will miss Saturday's game against the Washington Huskies.

Coach Les Miles didn't describe the injury Wednesday and said he didn't know how bad it is.

Miles says coaches won't decide immediately who will replace Faulk in the lineup.

He says there are three possibilities. Miles says sixth year senior Josh Dworaczyk could move up. Or he might move left guard La'el Collins or right tackle Alex Hurst into left tackle.

The History of the UK Ordnance Survey

In the UK the national mapping agency is called Ordnance Survey. The original purpose of which was for the military. The OS can trace its roots back to the Jacobite Rebellion in 1745 and the aftermath when King George II hired engineer William Roy and artist Paul Sandby to produce a detailed military survey of the Highlands in 1745. They created a survey that was to a scale of 1 inch to 1000 yards and such was the success of this map that in 1790 the Board of Ordnance chose to do a complete military survey of the British Isles.

In 1791 a new invention became key to mapping and that was the Ramsden theodolite. The Board of Ordnance worked on mapping the south of England using the first surveys that had previously been done by William Roy as a guide. The first 1 inch to 1 mile map was published in 1801 which gave a comprehensive map of Kent in the South East of England, however this was a private commission which finished at the county?s borders and it was not long afterwards that another map was published this time by the Board illustrating the counties of Essex and Kent without too much emphasis on the county borders. This lack of highlighting the borders was to become a characteristic of OS maps. It took around 20 years to map approximately one third of England and Wales and during 1819 Major Thomas Colby walked over 500 miles in 22 days during the survey. Major Colby then transferred to Ireland in 1824 to survey the Emerald Isle and this was completed in 1846.

In 1841 with the boom in the railways, the Ordnance Survey Act came into force and this granted rights to enter properties for the purpose of surveying. Unfortunately, a fire at the Tower of London damaged the Board?s headquarters in 1841 which led to complete disarray for a number of years with disputes about what scale to use for mapping among other things. The Board of Ordnance relocated to Southampton and the first 25 inch to 1 mile survey was finished in 1895.

Continuing its military heritage, Ordnance Survey was involved in creating maps of France and the Low Countries during both World Wars and in fact during the Second World War, a map of Holland complete with particulars of German occupation areas was created and this was just the sort of information that was vital to the military.

The Davidson committee was set up in 1935 to review the future of the OS and the then Director General, Major-General Malcolm MacLeod arranged for concrete trig points to be built on prominent hilltops throughout the entire United Kingdom. The purpose of these points was to create a constant position for theodolites to carry out accurate measurements. The final report by the Davidson Committee set the course for OS to move forward in the 20th century with the metre as the new unit of measurement. A trial map was introduced with a scale of 1:25000. As time and technology have progressed, so too has Ordnance Survey and in 1995 OS had digitised approximately 230,000 maps. The United Kingdom became the first country in the world to have such a large databank of electronic mapping. Ordnance Survey is no longer a military agency but still has government agency status.

The world of maps is being changed by technology and this is changing the way we view the world. This short article provides you with a bit of history about how the Ordnance Survey in the UK started. For more information on digital maps see http://www.promap.co.uk

Writing in the Dark | Marcher Lord Press

I began writing about six years ago. Little did I know the steep learning curve that came with that particular ?hobby? or the things God would teach me through the process.

At first I wrote scenes that came to me. I fiddled around with plots, never quite knowing where I was going. As I wrote, life continued to roll by. God move my family a couple times. I had a daughter, then along came the twins. When the twins arrived, I put writing away. My days were consumed with diaper changing, feeding children, and keeping the house from burning down (forget about cleaning it? Dan did that, bless his heart lol).

By this point, I came to realize writing is hard. I thought about putting the whole endeavor behind me. After all, when could I write with four little ones running around the house? But I could not shake the bug. I had to write. I had to finish the story inside of me.

When the twins were about one, I went back to writing. Sometimes only a hundred words a day. Sometimes I went weeks without writing because my family needed me. Life interfered again and my family found ourselves on the not-so-thrilling roller coaster ride of unemployment. It was then I started channeling the fear, heartache, and my deep search for God into my writing. I finally began to understand my characters. I understood their search inside themselves to choose the easy way or to choose God?s way: many times a path of hardship. I now had a plot.

We finished the roller coaster of unemployment (and lived!). By now I was half way through my first book. I was on a roll. I began to have goals of finishing the book and trying my hand at finding a publisher for it. Then I heard God speak. I knew in my heart he was telling me to wait an entire year. I balked at the idea and pushed forward with my own goals. God slammed back (note to anyone thinking about going through a door God is closing? don?t! He can slam hard lol).

I stopped fighting God and listened to him. I quietly put my goals of publishing away and instead continued to write. I finished my manuscript halfway through that year. I had two trusted friends critique it. They found all the things I knew in my gut I needed to work on with the story. I cried (yeah, its hard to work on something for years and find out you?re not quite there yet), then picked myself up by my flip-flops straps (I don?t wear boots) and began to work on the rewrites in earnest.

I learned a lot that year. I learned to finish a book. I learned to push through writer?s block. I learned to take criticism and use it to make my book better. And I was learning to put my work as a writer into God?s hand.

December came around again. Instead of my own plans, this time I asked God his. I felt his nudge to go ahead and start exploring the world of publishing. I signed up for the Mt Hermon conference. I tidied up my one page and pitch. And unlike last year, I totally felt scared about the prospects of publishing.

I met some amazing people at the conference. I had people interested in my manuscript. And I learned even more about writing. I came home refreshed.

During that year I also came to realize how much I had learned about the gospel through the writing of my story. Its not just about being saved from hell: it?s about being saved from something inside of us, something we cannot save ourselves from. It?s about God saving us and healing the darkness inside of us. What a beautiful picture!

The story of my writing is not done yet. No, I don?t have people knocking down my door wanting to publish my book. In fact, no one has knocked. But I felt God speaking to me again last week.

He is asking me to write in the dark now.

I can?t see where my story is going to go: I don?t know if it will ever be published or if it will only be something I leave behind for my children to read some day. What I do know is that I need to be faithful in the little bit of writing I do each day. And leave the rest to God.

*I wrote this blog post two years ago. Looking back, I see that God was preparing me for where I am now. So if you are feeling discouraged, know that God is working, even if you can?t see it :)
