Birthdays are a Blessing: How to Create a Princess Party on A Royal ...

Birthdays are a yearly gift that remind us of the blessing of life.? Whether it is a simple get-together or a themed party, the important thing is that we celebrate the uniqueness of our children with something fun!? Childhood playfulness is foundational to adult happiness.? We all know the importance of play in a child?s ability to learn.? But, having fun as a family is like the frosting on a cake.

When my daughter was born, we had moved far away from family and people we know well.? Her first few birthday celebrations were amongst ourselves filled with simple joys to a baby and toddler like diving into chocolate cake with bare fingers.? I always said that when she turns five, I would throw a special milestone party with not only family, but with new-found friends.

I love to plan parties.? My frugal nature helps to keep our celebrations a blessing.? What I decided to do for my little girl?is to have a ?God?s Little Princess Party? on a royal budget!

If you?d like to do something like this for some extra FUN (and a bit more work, of course), I?ve got some suggestions to make it easier and affordable.? In the end, the memories will last a lifetime.

10 Tips to Throw a Princess Birthday Party on a Royal Budget:

  1. Plan Ahead.? I always say that an hour of planning saves a day full of work.? For a party like this, I planned a year ahead!? Many of my purchases came from garage sales and thrift stores (including furniture).? It takes time find the right things on a budget.? When you have a plan, you can casually shop to find things at a great deal rather than making expensive last-minute purchases.
  2. Get Inspired From Free Resources.? You don?t have to reinvent the creativity wheel.? Get party inspiration from library books, blogs, and my favorite online resource called Pinterest.
  3. Decide on a Theme and Stick to It.? It can be easy to get distracted when planning a party.? By deciding on a specific theme, you?ll avoid unnecessary purchases while keeping the party looking uniformed.
  4. Avoid Party Supply Stores.? Can you believe I didn?t buy a single thing from a big party store?? Their prices were always more expensive compared to discount retailers, dollar stores, and other close-out stores.? Try shopping at places like Dollar Tree, Big Lots, Dollar General, Walmart, Target, and my favorite Hobby Lobby.
  5. Choose Popular Colors.? It is much easier to coordinate party items from different sources when you are using popular colors.? Instead of trendy color themes like navy and coral, use common ones like pink and purple.
  6. Use What You Already Have.? Instead of buying things specifically for the party, look around your home for things you may already have like, table linens, serving ware, craft supplies, etc.
  7. Prepare Your Own Food.? Cupcakes from a bakery costs about $2 each.? You can get a lot more cupcakes for your money if you make them yourself.? That goes for other party foods, as well.
  8. Make Your Own Decorations.? They do not have to be elaborate to be cute. Use inexpensive materials in creative ways to come up with something beautiful.? Instead of using helium-filled balloons, just blow them with air yourself and staple to a cardboard backdrop.? Use a cheap plastic table cover as colorful draping on the wall or even the ceiling.
  9. Utilize Available Talent.? Can you, or someone you know, craft party decor?? Do you know someone who can play music at the party?? Is there a cake decorator in the family?? Get them all on board.
  10. Find Contentment.? Even with this party, there were a few things I had planned to do but didn?t because of time and money.? The important thing is to keep what is important? important.? That is to celebrate the specialness of a person and to foster relationship in the family.

Are you ready to prepare the royal banquet table?? In the next princess party post, I will show you how I transformed a $10 garage sale table, a $2 bed skirt, and a sheer curtain panel into a beautiful banquet table for a few of God?s little princesses.
